Protecting and promoting women's human rights is the responsibility of the Government , said Dr Anthony Raju , Advocate , International Human Rights Defender.
Gender equality is at the very heart of human rights and United Nations values. A fundamental principle of the United Nations Charter adopted by world leaders in 1945 is "equal rights of men and women", and protecting and promoting women's human rights is the responsibility of the Government.
While we also stand for equality and fair treatment for women, no hasty step should be taken which may lead to a feeling of alienation amongst any community, women’s rights were a development issue and that people must not politicise , We all must ensure the rights of women to be upheld , said Dr June Ann , Convener , Amnesty Worldwide Movement for Women’s Rights.
